Tahoe and Truckee Unified School Districts requested the California State Senate/Assembly requesting the May 29th proposal to cut Home-to-School funding. The budget committee will discuss the proposal to cut home-to-school busing. At this time the request is to reject the proposal. Meetings will be held at Alpine School. The past proposals have reached the limit on program cuts.

The Frisbee is a disc shaped object that is used as a toy. "Frisbee" is name given to the disc by Wham-o Toy Company. The Frisbie Baking Company made pies and sold many to College students who decided that when the tins were empty they were fun to throw around. W.F. Morrison and W. Franscioni changed the tin into plastic. Mr. Morrison patented the slope of the Frisbee used that improved the way it flew. The slope is called the Morrison Slope. There are Frisbee clubs and programs all over America.

The mushroom is a fleshy fungus that we like to eat. Yes, it is a fruiting body of fungus. Mushrooms can come with stems and without stems. They can compliment almost any meal. Purchase mushrooms that are fresh, smooth and solid in its feel. Mushrooms are vegetables that grow from spores not seeds. All plants growing from spores are called fungi. They get their nutrients from the ground and the compost in which they grow. Preparing the compost from which they grow takes two to three weeks. Mushroom caps are the fruit of the plant. There are Crimini, White and Beech mushrooms to name a few.

This story is about our moon. The moon is really a satellite. The moon makes one complete orbit around our planet every 27.3 days. The United States Apollo program had the only manned landings on the moon. A few robotic landings have been sent and landed on the moon also. The moon rotates on its axis about the same time it takes to orbit our planet. So it is spinning as it is going around us. The shaded plains that can be seen with the naked eye are called "maria" which is Latin for seas. They were believed to be made of water but they were really made of lava. Sadly, to get there you still have to be an astronaut.
