These words are a mixture of the “Sound Sets” in the Purple Book 1 and Red Book 4. They also have a silent “e” on the end. They do not use the rule about the vowel saying its “name” because the vowel is too far from the silent “e” . Remember too that two Consonants that are the same make only one sound. Two “t”s make the same sound as one “t” , two “n”s make ths same sound as one “n” and so on. Simply read these as if you were using the Purple Book 1 rules and the Red Book 4 rules and ignore the “e” on the end of the word because it is silent.
