Welcome to the Orange Book. The rule taught in the Orange Book is as follows: “When two vowels are together the first one says its “name” and the second one is silent.” For example, “a i” together would make the sound made by the first letter’s “name”, which in this case would be the “a” letter “name”. The second vowel, which is the “i” would be silent. Since “a” and “i” are both vowels the sound made would be the sound of the “a” letter “name”. As in previous books, click on the letters at the top of the page and then read the words using the “Sound Set” you have just learned.
