This is one of the silly stories in this program written for you to practice reading the many words you have already been taught.

Justin and Jill and Karen get Rich

Justin is Jill's husband. Karen is Jill and Justin's kid. Karen is six. Jill is Karen's Mom and Justin is Karen's Dad.

Justin fed Jack, the dog, and went to get fish. Justin will go to the pond. If Justin gets catfish it will be lunch. Catfish is the best. Jill is fond of catfish. Karen is fond of catfish. "Wish me luck", said Justin as he left.

Jill must help Karen. Karen has a leg cast. The deck fell a bit and Karen fell off the deck into a big sandbox. Bang. The sand was not soft. The sandbox was not soft. Dad did not fix the deck. Dad had to fix the deck.

Miss Hunt went to help Karen. "Duck", Miss Hunt said in a yell. Karen did duck and felt a bump in the sandbox. Karen fell and the junk on the deck fell. Junk fell and fell but did not hit Karen. The condiments fell. The cutlets fell. The full rubbish can fell. The metal bucket fell. The rattan bench fell and hit Karen. Karen got a gash and a bump and had to get a cast. It was not a big gash.

"I want lunch," said Karen. "Lunch is not 'til ten," said Mom. "Want a jam sandwich?" said Mom. "Yes," said Karen. Karen had jam on a bun. Jam had gotten on Karen's hands and lips and leg and lap. Karen was a mess. Karen had to get a bath.

Karen went to the bathtub and got in. It was hot. She put a capful of suds in the tub. Karen did not ask Mom for help. She got in the tub but the cast leg did not get in the tub. The cast was not in the bathtub. It cannot get wet. It was not fun with the cast not in the tub but Karen did not want help.

"Finish in the bath," said Mom. "I did finish but I am wet." "Can I put on my red button top and bottom I got at the Gap with Carol and Nelson?" said Karen. Karen got to the kitchen with the red button top and bottom. "I put on the red socks. I had to tug the sock to fit on the cast," said Karen. Karen got the sock on the big cast.

"I am back," said Justin. "I had bad luck." Justin got back but he had a dogfish, a kingfish, a codfish and a devilfish. He did not get a catfish.

Karen fell back limp. "I want catfish and milk and muskmelon." If not, I will perish. I will get ill and perish.

"Yes, Miss Comic." But just a sandwich will do," said Mom. "'Til we get rich? said Karen. Yes, 'til we get rich", said Mom. Karen sat up. "I will get rich. Rich with satin bonnets and velvet sandals. And a sackful of rich ribbon to put on hats and gifts. I will not be Miss Karen. I will be Madam Karen. I will go to Paris and London and Japan. I will summon the bellhop just to get a hatbox. It is big. I cannot lift it. I will kickback in a hammock. I will be helpless." Karen fell back. "I cannot lift a lentil."

Jill and Justin had lunch but Karen went on and on. "I will be dominant. Fetch me a jacket, henchman. Do not be hesitant. I will not be content. I will be discontent. Fetch me the red handbag, Dutchman. I will be a wicked hellish witch."

Jill and Justin had a sandwich with milk and a banana but not fish. Fulton, the cat, had the fish. Fulton was not sad. Justin was not sad he did not fulfill his wish to get catfish. Justin was not sad he had to fish at sunset to get catfish.

"Hit the jackpot", said Karen. "Get Sam the Catfish." If Justin will fish at sunset and get Sam the big, big Catfish he will be rich. Not a man in Nantucket can get Sam the big catfish. It will be a ruckus if Justin gets Sam, the Catfish. Nantucket will ravish him with gifts. Justin has talent. He is just modest. He can get Sam and he will be rich.
